Nefertiti’s tai chi story

I am a theatre artist, educator, and avid tai chi player. I was introduced to Yang style tai chi in 2005 in Louisville, Kentucky by well known martial artist, Mfundishi “Baba” Serikali, also known as Grand Master Chuck Cowen. After years of study with Baba Serikali at his school Nu Chapter Tai Chi, I was fortunate to receive lessons in the art in China with Sun Hua and later studied with Alex King in Washington, DC.

I spent 23 years as a faculty member in the Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Louisville (UofL) where I taught courses in African American theatre, directed over 50 plays, oversaw international programs, and later chaired the department. I enjoy teaching tai chi to UofL students at the graduate and undergraduate levels but I am most privileged to share the art in the community with people of all ages.
